I'm running a fantasy f1 again this year. We only had 4 people take part last year (and it eventually came to a tie between Peter and Sara); it wasn't terribly involving as you just picked a team at the start of the year and that was it. This year I'm changing things a bit, and here are the rules:

You pick a team of 4 drivers and 1 constructor from a budget of 15 points. The top drivers and teams are worth 5 each, with the lowest only costing 1. In addition, you have an additional driver and team that you can change every race, and they don't have to come out of your budget (though you must change these each race, and you can't have duplicates of your permanent drivers / team). You'll need to get your choices to me before qualifying, either via the forum or via twitter (I'm @ChrisHorner if there's anyone who doesn't follow me wanting to take part).
I'll add a list of team and driver prices later on when it's finalised; I'm using the William Hill odds for determining prices.

Drivers score points in the same way that they do in the championship, ie: 25 for first place, 18 for second and so on, however they can score in other ways too:
--Qualifying in pole position is worth five points, placing 2nd-10th on the grid earns two.
--They're awarded two points for each position they gain during the course of the race, so a driver starting 10th on the grid and finishing in 5th will earn ten, in addition to their championship points.
--They earn five points if they drive the fastest lap of the race.
We'll be going by the official FIA race results to determine finishing positions, so any penalties after the race will affect our scores.

    Teams score by:
--Having the winning car (10 points)
--Having a car place in the top ten (5 points per car)
--Having a car finish the race (2 points per car)
So a team can score a maximum of 24 points in a weekend by having its cars finish 1st and 2nd.

If you want to take part, you'll have until the beginning of qualifying on saturday morning (11am I think) to give me:
    -4 permanent drivers
    -1 permanent team
    -1 option driver
    -1 option team
The first Bahrain practice sessions take place tomorrow, so I'd suggest seeing how everyone fares. I know it's a bit short notice, but we haven't even seen one of the cars running yet, and winter testing isn't really a reliable way of making these decisions.

The all important driver and team prices:

      5 points:
      Fernando Alonso
      Lewis Hamilton
      Sebastian Vettel
      Michael Schumacher

      4 points:
      Felipe Massa
      Jenson Button
      Mark Webber
      Nico Rosberg

      3 points:
      Robert Kubica
      Kamui Kobayashi
      Rubens Barrichello
      Nico Hulkenberg

      2 points:
      Adrian Sutil
      Pedro de la Rosa
      Heikki Kovalainen
      Jarno Trulli
      Timo Glock

      1 point:
      Bruno Senna
      Vitantonio Liuzzi
      Vitaly Petrov
      Sebastien Buemi
      Karun Chandhok
      Jamie Alguersuari
      Lucas Di Grassi

      And the teams:

      5 points:
      McLaren
      Ferrari

      4 points:
      Mercedes
      Red Bull

      3 points:
      Renault
      Sauber
      Williams

      2 points:
      Force India

      1 point:
      Lotus
      Toro Rosso
      Virgin
      Hispania

Remember that your permanent drivers and team need to be drawn from a budget of 15 points total. Your option driver and team are basically free, but you can't have the same ones from one race to the next.

Right then, first race over! Here are the results:

      2010-03-14 15:29:53
      Fantasy F1 Bahrain scorecard

No real surprise that Alonso was worth so much; 25 world championship points, 6 from the 3 places he gained, the fastest lap, and a couple for his being in the top 10 in qualifying. Ferrari get a 1-2, so maximum team points for them.

      2010-03-14 15:29:52
      Fantasy F1 Championship following Bahrain

So those of you who chose Ferrari and Alonso as their options have a clear lead, though you won't be able to use them again for the next race. Sam suffered a bit with the rest of his choices, and Sutil certainly didn't do any of us any favours.

I was wondering whether we could have separate forum folder for this; it'd make organisation easier without having to polute the general folder with lots of similar threads.

Just a minor correction; Sam should have 67 rather than 65; the formula for determining whether a constructor's car finished the race or not was pointing to the wrong column, and Renault scored 2 rather than 0.

As Kimball pointed out to me on IRC, I neglected to mention that if your drivers *lose* places over their starting position, they'll lose points. This is how we did things last year, and it certainly spiced things up a bit.
